About Us

Cross Wrap has a long and interesting history. Read below our story and you will know how we have ended up here, where we are now.

Innovations Born from Customer Needs

1992 – The spark

A young entrepreneur, Kalle Kivelä, set out to rethink how square bales and other rectangular products should be wrapped. Customers wanted a reliable stretch-wrap system that would use film only where it matters most: on corners and handling sides. They wanted to create stronger packages at lower cost. On a cargo ship returning from a UK trade show, Kalle sketched the first cross-wrapping concept by hand.

1994 – From sketch to machine

In an old bus hall in Finland, Kalle and a small, determined team built the first Cross Wrap machine. The aim was simple and ambitious: automatically wrap various-sized packages and optimize film use. The result met customer expectations, and launched a new way of wrapping baled materials.

From Wrapping to Opening

As wrapped and wired bales became standard, customers asked the next question:
How do we open them safely and efficiently?
Cross Wrap answered by inventing the Bale Opener, automating film and tie removal to keep material flows clean and operators safe.

Continuous Innovation

Customer needs have always driven Cross Wrap’s roadmap. One of the latest breakthroughs is the Dewiring Machine, designed for plastic and paper recycling to safely and automatically cut, remove, and handle bale wires, while improving safety, uptime, and line performance.

Dewiring is the Cross Wrap’s method to get rid of bale wires and start process of opening the recyclable bales. It has turned out that R&D made during the past 10 years have resulted to the fact that our machine is the most reliable machine on the market to cut wires – Thanks to our dedicated product management and engineering.
