FCC Medio Ambiente (Spain), part of the global FCC Group, selected four Bale Wrappers from Cross Wrap to securely wrap recycled and refuse material bales across three facilities. The project builds on a decades-long collaboration between Cross Wrap and FCC, highlighting the trust and performance proven in earlier installations.

Challenge

FCC needed an effective, clean, and regulation-compliant solution to handle waste from their mechanical-biological treatment (MBT) plants and avoid air-borne litter, pests, odor, and fire risk. Also, regional rules in Spain mandate that refuse material needs to be wrapped before dry landfilling.

Solution

FCC Spain deployed four Bale Wrappers: two at one site and one each at the other two – integrated with offloading conveyors tailored to site specs. These machines wrap 1.1 m square bales at 20–30 bales per hour, minimizing movement and securing the material. Cross Wrap supported installation, operator training (in Spanish), and ongoing service and spare parts support.

Key takeaway

Cross Wrap’s Bale Wrapping solution enabled FCC to meet regulatory requirements while improving landfill safety, increasing operational efficiency, and reducing environmental risks. The long-standing partnership with FCC UK paved the way for this successful expansion into FCC Spain – supporting cleaner, denser, and more controlled dry landfill operations.
